Whats ECO-G-B-I-S? And why has it got a stupid name?
ECO-G-B-I-S stands for the Great British Insulation Scheme. It’s another government program to help people in Great Britain insulate their homes and save energy.
Here’s the simple breakdown:
- Free or cheaper insulation: It offers free or discounted insulation for your home, like loft insulation or cavity wall insulation.
- Different from ECO4: While ECO4 focuses on low-income households and often provides multiple upgrades (like a new boiler and insulation), GBIS is mainly about insulation and is open to more people.
- EPC rating matters: To be eligible, your home usually needs an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or lower. This means your home isn’t very energy efficient.
- Council tax bands: There are also rules about which council tax bands are eligible.
Think of it like this:
Imagine the government has a big pile of insulation and wants to give it away to help people keep their homes warm. They offer it for free to those with the draftiest homes (low EPC rating) and some others might get it cheaper. That’s the basic idea of GBIS!
Important note:
- Limited measures: GBIS usually only covers one type of insulation, unlike ECO4, which might fund several improvements.
- Check eligibility: The exact rules vary, so it’s best to check if you qualify on the government website.
The Great British Warmup: Born from Frustration, Fueled by Community Spirit
The Great British Warmup was founded on a simple idea: making energy-saving home improvements shouldn’t be so complicated! It all started when one of the owners, Luke, had his own home insulated through the GBIS scheme. Frustrated by the complex process and learning about the high fees paid to those processing applications, he teamed up with Adam to create a better way.
Their vision? To simplify the process and ensure that the money saved goes back into the community. That’s why The Great British Warmup funds local projects with every home they help improve under any government scheme – ECO4, LA Flex, or GBIS. From schools and community gardens to playgrounds and local groups, they’re committed to making a difference where it matters most.
